At Jingels I was asked to make a Viking Haversack as a gift from the Queen at 12th Night. Dec 6 - Jan 3 time to make it...I said yes. I think mead or cycer was involved.
|
| OK how hard would it be to make a bucket with handles...right?! |
I did multiple searches for haversack, pouches and even sorans...nothing on how to make them. Asked a few folks...two rectangles and a strap (ok, absolutly no help) I had to finish the Red Wool dress by Dec. 20 and worked non stop on that. So Today December 24 was really the first time I could work on the haversack.
I had her arms to work from. and this one |
| Then I was asked to have a flap to cover and secure the haversack... how do you line such a thing..I finally came to the conclusion...you don't. |
Merry Christmas! |
Cut out one piece for the body and folded it about 2/3 for the body and1/3 for the fold over flap. |
I had already purchased the wool felt from JoAnn's and #8 DMC Cotton perl embrodiery in Ecru, 890 ( green) & 208 (purple) |
I used two strands to fingerloop the pull. I have a real bone button |
| Using buttonhole stitch to tack everything down and I should have this finished by tonight or tomorrow for sure. The lining is linen and handsewn down on the inside of the body of the haversack. The straps are two layers of the purple felt. |
